Great Ethiopian Run has announced that one of South Africa’s most celebrated distance athletes Elana Meyer will come to the race as a VIP guest. Meyer is best remembered for her epic duel with Ethiopia’s Derartu Tulu in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics 10,000m where she won the silver medal behind Tulu.
Meyer also won the 1994 World Half Marathon Championships and set world records at the half-marathon on four occasions in 1991, 1997, 1998 and 1999. Her fastest time was 1 hour 6 minutes and 44 seconds set in 1999 which still stands as a national record.
The 2023 Sofi Malt Great Ethiopian Run International 10km takes place on Sunday 19th November.
